حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ النَّخَعِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ: نَزَلَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا لَيْلَةَ الْحَيَّةِ، قَالَ: فَقُلْنَا لَهُ: وَمَا لَيْلَةُ الْحَيَّةِ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ؟ قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِحِرَاءٍ لَيْلًا، خَرَجَتْ عَلَيْنَا حَيَّةٌ مِنَ الْجَبَلِ، فَأَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِقَتْلِهَا،، ، فَطَلَبْنَاهَا، فَأَعْجَزَتْنَا، فَقَالَ: " دَعُوهَا عَنْكُمْ، فَقَدْ وَقَاهَا اللهُ شَرَّكُمْ، كَمَا وَقَاكُمْ شَرَّهَا " (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that Surah Mursalat was revealed to the Prophet (ﷺ) on the night of the snake. We asked him, "What is meant by the night of the snake?" He replied, "Once, at night, we were with the Prophet (ﷺ) in the cave of Hira when suddenly a snake came out from the mountain. The Prophet (ﷺ) ordered us to kill it. We quickly advanced, but it outpaced us and entered its hole. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Leave it, it has escaped your harm just as you have escaped its harm.'"
