Translation

English translation

Sahira bint Jaifar says that once we performed Hajj, then we went to Madinah Munawwarah and there we also visited Safiyyah bint Huyayy. We found some women from Kufa sitting with her. These women said to Sahira, "If you wish, you can ask questions and we will listen, otherwise we will ask questions and you listen." We said, "You ask the questions." So they asked Safiyyah several questions, for example, regarding husband and wife, regarding the days of impurity, and then regarding the nabidh (fermented drink) made in a jug. Safiyyah said, "O people of Iraq, you ask a lot about the nabidh made in a jug (the Prophet, peace be upon him, has declared it haram). However, there is no harm for any of you to cook your dates, then strain and clean them, and put them in a waterskin, tie its mouth, and when it becomes good, drink it yourself and give it to your husband to drink as well."
