Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman says that Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that if a person is in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) in the morning, his fast is not valid. Once, Marwan bin Hakam sent me to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) to ask: If someone enters the morning in Ramadan in a state of major ritual impurity and has not yet performed ghusl, Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that his fast is not valid. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Sometimes the Prophet (ﷺ) would enter the morning in a state of major ritual impurity, then he would perform ghusl and complete the rest of the day's fast. Marwan sent this hadith to Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he refrained from expressing his own opinion.
