حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ضَرَبَ خَادِمًا لَهُ قَطُّ، وَلَا امْرَأَةً لَهُ قَطُّ، وَلَا ضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ شَيْئًا قَطُّ، إِلَّا أَنْ يُجَاهِدَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، وَلَا نِيلَ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ قَطُّ فَيَنْتَقِمَهُ مِنْ صَاحِبِهِ، إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، فَإِنْ كَانَ لِلَّهِ انْتَقَمَ لَهُ "، " وَلَا عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ أَمْرَانِ إِلَّا أَخَذَ بِالَّذِي (١) هُوَ أَيْسَرُ، إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ إِثْمًا فَإِنْ كَانَ إِثْمًا كَانَ أَبْعَدَ النَّاسِ مِنْهُ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (ﷺ) never hit any servant or any wife, and never struck anyone with his own hand except when he was fighting in the way of Allah. If anyone committed insolence against the Prophet (ﷺ), he never took revenge from that person, but if the sanctities of Allah were violated, then he would take revenge for the sake of Allah. And whenever two options were presented before the Prophet (ﷺ), and one of them was easier, the Prophet (ﷺ) would choose the easier one, unless it was a sin, because if it was a sin, the Prophet (ﷺ) would keep farther away from it than anyone else.
