Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman says that Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that if a person is in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) in the morning, his fast is not valid. When Marwan found out, he once sent me with another man to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) to ask: If a person enters the morning in Ramadan in a state of major ritual impurity and has not yet performed ghusl, what is the ruling? She replied: Sometimes the Prophet (ﷺ) would enter the morning in a state of major ritual impurity, not due to a wet dream but by choice, and he would complete his fast. Both of us returned and informed Marwan of this. Marwan told me to inform Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) of this. I said that he is my neighbor, and I do not like to present anything unpleasant before him. But Marwan made me swear, so I met him and told him: I did not want to mention this before you, but the governor made me swear. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: This was narrated to me by Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him).
