حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ (٤) عُرْوَةَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: جَاءَ حَمْزَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْأَسْلَمِيُّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَصُومُ يَعْنِي أَسْرُدُ الصَّوْمَ، أَفَأَصُومُ فِي السَّفَرِ؟ قَالَ: " إِنْ شِئْتَ فَصُمْ، وَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَأَفْطِرْ " (٥)،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Hamza Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) once presented himself in the court of the Messenger and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I am a person who regularly fasts; can I keep fasts while traveling?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If you wish, then keep them, and if you wish, then do not keep them."
