English translation

Urwah narrates that once Aisha said to him, "Nephew! The hair of the Prophet (peace be upon him) was a little longer than the earlobes and shorter than long hair. By Allah, O nephew! Sometimes a whole month would pass over the family of Muhammad (peace be upon him) in such a way that no fire would be lit in any of the houses of the Prophet (peace be upon him), except that a little meat would come from somewhere. For our sustenance, there were only two things: water and dates. However, there were some households of the Ansar living around us, and at the time when the Prophet (peace be upon him) passed away, there was not even enough food in the cupboard that a person with a liver could eat, except for a few grains of barley. But I kept eating from them for a long time, yet they did not finish. One day I measured them, and then they finished. I wish I had not measured them. And by Allah, the bedding of the Prophet (peace be upon him) was made of leather, stuffed with palm fibers."
