English translation

Ubaidullah says that once we presented ourselves before Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and requested, "O Mother of the Believers! Tell us about the illness of the Prophet (ﷺ) at the time of his passing." She replied, "When the Prophet (ﷺ) fell ill, he began to have difficulty breathing. We likened his breathing to that of a person who eats raisins. The Prophet's habit was to visit the pure wives. When the illness intensified, the Prophet (ﷺ) sought permission from his wives to spend the days of his illness in my house, and all of them granted permission. Thus, the Prophet (ﷺ) left from there supported by Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and another man. At that time, the blessed feet of the Prophet (ﷺ) were dragging on the ground." Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) asked Ubaidullah, "Did Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) not tell you who the other man was?" He replied, "No." So Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, "He was Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)."
