Musnad Ahmad Hadith 23401

Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila says that once I went out towards a village with Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked for water, so a farmer brought water in a silver vessel. Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) struck the vessel on his face. We signaled to each other to remain silent, because if we asked him, he would never have told us about it. So we remained silent. After a while, he himself said, "Do you know why I struck this vessel on his face?" We replied, "No." He said, "I had forbidden him before as well (but he did not refrain)." Then he told us that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Do not drink anything in gold or silver vessels, and do not wear silk or brocade, because these things are for the disbelievers in this world and for you in the Hereafter."
