حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، وَأَبُو نُعَيْمٍ قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جُمَيْعٍ، قَالَ أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ: عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ [وَقَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ] (٢) ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الطُّفَيْلِ، قَالَ:، ، كَانَ بَيْنَ حُذَيْفَةَ وَبَيْنَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعَقَبَةِ مَا يَكُونُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ، فَقَالَ: أَنْشُدُكَ اللهَ، كَمْ كَانَ أَصْحَابُ الْعَقَبَةِ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُ الْقَوْمُ: أَخْبِرْهُ إِذْ سَأَلَكَ، قَالَ: إِنْ كُنَّا نُخْبَرُ أَنَّهُمْ أَرْبَعَةَ عَشَرَ ـ وَقَالَ أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ: فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ: كُنَّا نُخْبَرُ أَنَّهُمْ أَرْبَعَةَ عَشَرَ ـ قَالَ: فَإِنْ كُنْتَ مِنْهُمْ ـ وَقَالَ أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ: فِيهِمْ ـ فَقَدْ كَانَ الْقَوْمُ خَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ، وَأَشْهَدُ بِاللهِ أَنَّ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ مِنْهُمْ حَرْبٌ لِلَّهِ وَلِرَسُولِهِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَيَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْأَشْهَادُ ـ قَالَ أَبُو أَحْمَدَ: الْأَشْهَادُ ـ وَعَذَرْنَا (١) ثَلَاثَةً، قَالُوا: مَا سَمِعْنَا مُنَادِيَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَمَا عَلِمْنَا مَا أَرَادَ الْقَوْمُ ـ قَالَ: أَبُو أَحْمَدَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ: وَقَدْ كَانَ فِي حَرَّةٍ فَمَشَى ـ فَقَالَ لِلنَّاسِ: " إِنَّ الْمَاءَ قَلِيلٌ فَلَا يَسْبِقْنِي إِلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ "، فَوَجَدَ قَوْمًا قَدْ سَبَقُوهُ، فَلَعَنَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
Abu Tufail says that there was a minor dispute between Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) and a companion (may Allah be pleased with him) who participated in the Pledge of Aqabah, just as happens among people. He asked, "I ask you by Allah, how many people participated in the Pledge of Aqabah?" The people said to Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him), "Since he is asking you, please tell him." He replied, "We have been informed that they were fourteen men. If you are also included among them, then their number becomes fifteen. And I swear by Allah that among them, twelve men are warriors for Allah and His Messenger in this worldly life and on the Day when witnesses will rise. And he excused three people, who said that they had not heard the announcement of the Prophet's (ﷺ) caller and did not know what the people wanted." This is clarified in Abu Ahmad's hadith, that once, in the intense heat of summer, the Prophet (ﷺ) set out and told the people, "There is very little water, so no one should reach that place before me." But when the Prophet (ﷺ) arrived there, he saw that some people had already reached before him. The Prophet (ﷺ) cursed and reproached them.
