Translation

English translation

Once, Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) gathered in a church or place of worship. Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) forbade us from selling gold for gold, silver for silver, dates for dates, wheat for wheat, barley for barley, and salt for salt, except that it be equal for equal. Whoever adds or asks for an addition has engaged in usury. However, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) permitted us to sell gold for silver and silver for gold, wheat for barley and barley for wheat, hand to hand, as we wish.
