حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَانُ بْنُ رِفَاعَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ الْقَاسِمِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ: جَلَسْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَّرَنَا وَرَقَّقَنَا، فَبَكَى سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ فَأَكْثَرَ الْبُكَاءَ فَقَالَ: يَا لَيْتَنِي مِتُّ. فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " يَا سَعْدُ أَعِنْدِي تَتَمَنَّى الْمَوْتَ؟ " فَرَدَّدَ ذَلِكَ ثَلَاثَ مرار (١) ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " يَا سَعْدُ إِنْ كُنْتَ خُلِقْتَ لِلْجَنَّةِ فَمَا طَالَ عُمْرُكَ أَوْ حَسُنَ مِنْ عَمَلِكَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ " (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were present in the service of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ). The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) gave us admonitions that softened the hearts, upon which Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) began to weep and continued to weep for a long time, and said, "Alas! If only I had died." The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "O Sa’d! You are wishing for death in my presence?" and repeated this three times. Then he said, "O Sa’d! If you have been created for Paradise, then the longer your life and the better your deeds, the better it is for you."
