حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُتِيَ بِمَاعِزِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " تَخَلَّفَ أَحَدُهُمْ يُنِبِّ (١) كَنَبِيبِ التَّيْسِ "، قَالَ: فَحَدَّثْتُهُ الْحَكَمَ فَأَعْجَبَهُ، وَقَالَ لِي مَا الْكُثْبَةُ، (٢) فَسَأَلْتُ سِمَاكًا عَنِ الْكُثْبَةِ، فَقَالَ: " اللَّبَنُ الْقَلِيلُ " (٣)،
Translation
English translation
Hajjaj narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Simak ibn Harb, who said: I heard Jabir ibn Samurah say: I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, Ma'iz ibn Malik was brought to him, and he mentioned its meaning except that he said: "One of them stayed behind making a sound like the bleating of a goat." He said: So I related it to al-Hakam, and it pleased him, and he said to me: What is al-kuthbah? So I asked Simak about al-kuthbah, and he said: A small amount of milk.
