حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ، أُرَاهُ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ: " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْمُرُنَا بِصِيَامِ عَاشُورَاءَ، وَيَحُثُّنَا عَلَيْهِ، وَيَتَعَاهَدُنَا عِنْدَهُ، فَلَمَّا فُرِضَ رَمَضَانُ، لَمْ يَأْمُرْنَا، وَلَمْ يَنْهَنَا عَنْهُ، وَلَمْ يَتَعَاهَدْنَا عِنْدَهُ " (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the beginning, the Prophet (ﷺ) used to encourage and command us to fast on the tenth of Muharram, and he would have us act upon it. Later, when the fasting of the month of Ramadan was made obligatory, the Prophet (ﷺ) neither commanded us regarding it, nor forbade it, nor had us act upon it.
