حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ قَالَ: سُئِلَ قَتَادَةُ عَنِ الشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ، ، فَقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ عِصَامٍ الضُّبَعِيُّ، عَنْ شَيْخٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَصْرَةِ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " هِيَ الصَّلَاةُ: مِنْهَا شَفْعٌ، وَمِنْهَا وَتْرٌ " (١)،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) that a person asked the Prophet (ﷺ) about the meaning of the words "By the even and the odd" in Surah Al-Fajr. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: It refers to prayer, as some prayers are even and some are odd.
