Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) that the she-camel named Adhba actually belonged to a man from Banu Aqil and was a mount for the pilgrims. That man was captured and his she-camel was also seized. The Prophet (ﷺ) passed by him while he was tied with ropes. The Prophet (ﷺ) was riding a donkey and had a sheet wrapped around him. The man said, "O Muhammad! (ﷺ) Will you also capture me and the pilgrims’ mount?" The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, "We have captured you because of the audacity of your allies, Banu Thaqif, for Banu Thaqif had imprisoned two companions of the Prophet (ﷺ)." Anyway, during the conversation, the man said, "I am a Muslim." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If you had said this at a time when you had full control over yourself, you would have attained complete success." Then the Prophet (ﷺ) moved on, and the man said, "O Muhammad! (ﷺ) I am hungry, feed me; I am thirsty, give me water." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "This is your need (which we will fulfill)." Then, in exchange for the ransom of those two companions, this man was given and Adhba was kept for the Prophet’s own mount. Not long after, the polytheists raided the pasture of Madinah and took away the animals there, among which was Adhba as well. They also captured a Muslim woman. One day, when the woman saw the people were heedless, she quietly mounted the Prophet’s she-camel and made a vow that if she reached Madinah safely, she would slaughter this she-camel. Anyway, she reached Madinah and wanted to slaughter the Prophet’s she-camel, but the people stopped her and mentioned it to the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "You have given it a bad reward." Then he said, "The son of Adam cannot make a vow regarding something he does not own, nor is there a vow in disobedience to Allah."
