حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ، يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ الْبَجَلِيِّ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ، يَخْطُبُ يَقُولُ: " مَاتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ " " وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ " " وَعُمَرُ، وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ " " وَأَنَا ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
Jarir says that I heard Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) saying during a sermon that when the Prophet (ﷺ) passed away, he was sixty-three years old. When Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, he was also sixty-three years old. When Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, he was also sixty-three years old. And now I too have reached the age of sixty-three.
