Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Prophet (ﷺ) wore a silk garment which had been gifted to him from somewhere. Then he sent it, folded, to Umar. Someone asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Why did you take it off?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Jibril forbade me from it." Meanwhile, Umar also came in, weeping, and said, "O Messenger of Allah! You dislike something and give it to me—what is my sin?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I did not give it to you to wear; I gave it to you so that you could sell it and use its price for your needs." So he sold it for two thousand dirhams.
