Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was in the shade of my house when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed by me. When I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), I jumped up and followed behind him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Come closer to me." So I came closer. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took my hand, and both of us, while walking, entered the room of one of the noble wives, either Umm Salamah or Sayyidah Zaynab bint Jahsh. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went inside, and after a short while, he gave me permission to enter as well. When I entered, the Mother of the Believers was behind a veil. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked her if she had anything to eat. She replied, "Yes," and three loaves of bread were brought and placed on the dining cloth. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Do you have any curry (salan) as well?" She replied, "No, but there is a little vinegar." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Bring that." So vinegar was presented. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) placed one loaf of bread in front of himself and one in front of me, and broke the third loaf into two pieces, placing half in front of himself and half in front of me.
