حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ غُلَامٌ، فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُسَمِّيَهُ مُحَمَّدًا، فَانْطَلَقَ بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَسَأَلُوهُ، فَقَالَ: " سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي، وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي، فَإِنِّي بُعِثْتُ قَاسِمًا أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a child was born to an Ansari, and he wanted to name him Muhammad. So we came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and asked. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Name yourselves after me, but do not take my kunyah (patronymic), because I have been sent among you as a distributor."
