Qatadah says that Sulaiman bin Hisham said to me: “Whatever we eat, Imam Zuhri orders us to perform a new ablution.” I said to him: “I asked Saeed bin Musayyib about this issue, and he said: ‘Whatever lawful thing you eat, after eating it, ablution is not obligatory upon you. And when something comes out of your body, that is impurity, and for that you should perform ablution.’” He asked: “Is there anyone else in the city who holds this opinion?” I said: “Among the ancient scholars of the Arabian Peninsula.” He asked: “Who are they?” I said: “Ata bin Abi Rabah.” So he sent a message to Ata, and Ata said: “Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith to me: He ate meat and bread with Siddiq Akbar (Abu Bakr), then he led the prayer just like that and did not perform fresh ablution.” It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “It is permissible to give something to someone for a lifetime.”
