Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were standing in rows with the Prophet (ﷺ) for the Zuhr or Asr prayer, and it seemed as if the Prophet (ﷺ) was reaching out to grab something, then he began to move back, so the people also began to move back. After the prayer was finished, Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Today you did something that you have never done before." The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Paradise was presented before me with all its splendors, and I wanted to pluck a bunch of grapes to give to you, but then something came between us. If I had brought it to you and all the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth had eaten from it, it would not have diminished in the least. Then Hell was presented before me, and when I felt its blaze, I moved back, and I saw that the majority of its inhabitants were women, who, if entrusted with a secret, reveal it; if asked for something, they act miserly; if they themselves ask for something, they insist; and if they receive, they do not show gratitude. I also saw there Luhayyi bin Amr, who was dragging his intestines in Hell, and I saw Ma'bad bin Aktham Ka'bi, who resembled him the most." Upon this, Ma'bad said: "O Messenger of Allah! Is there any harm for me in this resemblance?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "No, you are a Muslim and he was a disbeliever."
