Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْتَطْعِمُهُ، فَأَطْعَمَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسْقَ شَعِيرٍ، فَمَا زَالَ الرَّجُلُ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ هُوَ وَامْرَأَتُهُ وَوَصِيفٌ لَهُمْ حَتَّى كَالُوهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَوْ لَمْ تَكِيلُوهُ لَأَكَلْتُمْ مِنْهُ، وَلَقَامَ لَكُمْ " (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) to request some grain. The Prophet (ﷺ) gave him a wasq. After that, the man, his wife, and their child continued to eat from it regularly until one day they measured it. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "If you had not measured it, you would have continued to take out and eat from it, and it would have remained with you."
