Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a monk sent a silk cloak as a gift to the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) wore it at that time, but after coming home, he took it off. Then, upon learning of the arrival of a delegation, Umar requested that the Prophet (ﷺ) wear the cloak. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Silk clothing is not suitable for us in this world; it will be suitable for us in the Hereafter. However, Umar, you may take it." Umar said, "You dislike it, and I should take it?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I am not ordering you to wear it, but rather giving it to you so that you may send it to the land of Iran and obtain wealth through it." Then the Prophet (ﷺ) himself sent that cloak to the King of Abyssinia, Najashi, who had given refuge to the emigrant companions of the Prophet (ﷺ).
