English translation

Shurahbil says: Once we went to Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him). He was praying wrapped in a single garment, although other clothes were lying near him. When he finished the prayer with salam, I said to him, "O Abdullah, may Allah forgive you, you are praying in a single garment while you have other clothes beside you." He replied, "I did this so that fools like you may see. Then he said, 'I am praying in a single garment—did the companions have two garments?' The Prophet (ﷺ) said: When you stand for prayer and you have only one garment on your body, and it is wide, then wrap it well around yourself, and if it is tight, then make it a lower garment (tahband) and then pray."
