حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عِنْدَ امْرَأَةٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ صَنَعَتْ لَهُ طَعَامًا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْكُمْ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ "، فَدَخَلَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، فَهَنَّيْنَاهْ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْكُمْ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ "، فَدَخَلَ عُمَرُ، فَهَنَّيْنَاهْ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْكُمْ رَجُلٌ، ، مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ "، فَرَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُدْخِلُ رَأْسَهُ تَحْتَ الْوَدِيِّ، فَيَقُولُ: " اللهُمَّ إِنْ شِئْتَ جَعَلْتَهُ عَلِيًّا "، فَدَخَلَ عَلِيٌّ، فَهَنَّيْنَاهْ (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were attending a meal invitation at the house of an Ansari woman along with the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Soon a man from among the people of Paradise will come to you." After a short while, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived. We congratulated him. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Soon another man from among the people of Paradise will come to you." After a little while, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived. We also congratulated him. The Prophet (ﷺ) then said again: "Soon another man from among the people of Paradise will come to you." At that time, I saw that the Prophet (ﷺ) was looking out from beneath the trees and said: "O Allah, if You will, let the one who comes be Ali." Accordingly, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and we also congratulated him.
