حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ، يَقُولُ: وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا غُلَامٌ، فَأَسْمَاهُ الْقَاسِمَ، فَقُلْنَا: لَا نُكَنِّيكَ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ، وَلَا نُنْعِمُكَ عَيْنًا، فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، فَقَالَ: " أَسْمِ ابْنَكَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a boy was born to one of us, and he named him "Qasim." We said to him, "We will not cool your eyes by giving you the kunyah Abu al-Qasim." Upon this, that person came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and mentioned the whole matter. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to him, "Name your son Abdur Rahman."
