حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ، يَقُولُ: جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَبَايَعَهُ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ، فَوُعِكَ، فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: أَقِلْنِي، فَأَبَى، ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ، (١) فَقَالَ: أَقِلْنِي، فَأَبَى، فَسَأَلَ عَنْهُ، فَقَالُوا: خَرَجَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّ الْمَدِينَةَ كَالْكِيرِ، تَنْفِي خَبَثَهَا، وَتَنْصَعُ طَيِّبَهَا " (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin came to the service of the Prophet (ﷺ) and pledged allegiance on his blessed hand. After a short while, he developed a very high fever. He came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "Please annul my pledge of allegiance." The Prophet (ﷺ) refused. This happened three times. The fourth time, he did not come. The Prophet (ﷺ) inquired, and the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) informed him that he had left Madinah. Upon this, the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Madinah is like a furnace; it removes its impurities and makes the good things shine and become pure."
