English translation
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once we were sitting and writing down the words coming from the blessed mouth of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Meanwhile, the Prophet (peace be upon him) came to us and asked, "What are you writing?" We replied, "Whatever we hear from you." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Another book along with the Book of Allah? Keep the Book of Allah pure (do not mix other things with it)." So, whatever we had written until then, we gathered it on a mound and set it on fire. Then we asked the Prophet (peace be upon him), "Can we narrate your hadiths or not?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Yes! You can narrate my hadiths, there is no harm in it. However, whoever deliberately attributes a false statement to me should make his abode in Hell." Then we asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), can we also mention the incidents of Bani Israel?" He replied, "Yes! You can narrate them too, there is no harm in it, because whatever you narrate about them, there are even more astonishing things among them."
