We are Muslims and always need Allah’s protection to remain safe from harm because only Allah can truly protect us. For this reason, we should ask Allah SWT for help as often as possible in all the activities we do including saying Dua For Entering and Leaving The Bathroom.
Yes, it’s true that we should recite dua (supplication) when we enter the toilet as well as when leaving it.
The reason why you should seek refuge with Allah when entering the toilet is to seek his protection from the devils that frequently be where there are impurities and where are uncovered.
There are ahadith that indicate that.
Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “These toilets are haunted (inhabited by devils), so when anyone of you goes to the toilet let him say, ‘A’udhu Billahi min al-khubthi wa’l-khabaith (I seek refuge with Allah from the male and female devils).” (Narrated by Abu Dawud, 6; classed as sahih by al-Albani in Sahih Abi Dawud)

The reason you should seek protection with Allah there.
Because they are toilets, and by Allah’s will the devils dominate toilets.
A toilet is a filthy place where one should not verbally remember Allah, so the shaytan takes advantage if one does not remember Him, because the remembrance of Allah drives him away. So the command to seek refuge with Allah before that means that He will protect you from the shaytan until he comes out.
Dua for Entering Toilet / Bathroom:
Our beloved Prophet taught us that we should put our left foot first before entering the toilet. Then recite dua: “Bismillah Allahumma inni a’udzu bika minal khubutsi wal khabaitsi.”
Translation : (In the name of Allah) O Allah, I seek protection in You from the male and female Shaytaan.”
Dua for leaving the Bathroom:
We are also advised not to linger in the toilet for long and must immediately leave the toilet when all our activities in it are finished by stepping with the right foot when leaving the toilet door and also reciting dua:
Ghufranaka Alhamdulillah illadhi adhhaba anni al-adha wa ‘aafaanee
Translation: “(O Allah) I seek forgiveness and pardon from You”. All Praise be to Allah, who has taken away from my discomfort and granted me relief”.
The scholars have stated that the reason why one should seek forgiveness when exiting the toilet is that it is for not remembering Allah whilst one was in the toilet. The Muslim regards that as a shortcoming and makes up for it by asking for forgiveness.
Things not to do whilst in the toilet
There are a few things that the Prophet disliked or forbade whilst using the toilet. Ensuring your child or student knows these DONTs of Islamic toilet manners is also important. Read on to find out what you shouldn’t be doing when using the toilet.
- Don’t face the Qibla when using the toilet
- Don’t do Istinja (clean your privates) with your right hand. The Prophet advised his companions to use their left hand. This is because we eat with our right hand and so using the left for cleaning ourselves makes sense.
- Don’t urinate in places that people use when they walk or where might sit for shade or rest
- Don’t urinate in still water like ponds, lakes, or springs. This is to stop the water from becoming contaminated (especially if it’s used for this)
- purpose by lots of people).
- Don’t take the name of Allah into the toilet with you. For example, you should remove necklaces, rings, and T-shirts, with Allah’s name on it before going into the toilet
- Don’t talk on the toilet
TOILET ETIQUETTE IN ISLAM ACCORDING TO HADITH:
Now that we’ve covered basic Duas for entering and coming out of the bathroom. Here’s another hadith about proper toilet etiquette.
Don’t Use Your Right Hand:
Narrated Abu Qatada: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Whenever anyone of you drinks water, he should not breathe in the drinking utensil, and whenever anyone of you goes to a lavatory, he should neither touch his penis nor clean his private parts with his right hand.” Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 153 In-book reference : Book 4, Hadith 19
Clean Thoroughly:
He should be careful to remove all impurities after answering the call of nature because the Prophet (pbuh) warned against being careless in cleaning oneself after urinating (Reported by Ibn Maajah, 342; see also Saheeh al-Jaami, 1202).
Narrated by Aisha, Ummul Mu’minin: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Ten are the acts according to fitrah (nature): clipping the mustache, letting the beard grow, using the tooth-stick, cleansing the nose (Al-Istinshaq) with water, cutting the nails, washing the finger joints, plucking the hair under the arm-pits, shaving the pubes, and cleansing one’s private parts (after easing or urinating) with water. The narrator said: I have forgotten the tenth, but it may have been rinsing the mouth.
Avoid Facing Qibla
Narrated Abu Aiyub Al-Ansari: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “If anyone of you goes to an open space for answering the call of nature he should neither face nor turn his back towards the Qibla; he should either face the east or the west.” Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 144 In-book reference: Book 4, Hadith 10
Cleansing With Water:
Narrated by Aisha, Ummul Mu’minin: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Ten are the acts according to fitrah (nature): clipping the mustache, letting the beard grow, using the tooth-stick, cleansing the nose (Al-Istinshaq) with water, cutting the nails, washing the finger joints, plucking the hair under the arm-pits, shaving the pubes, and cleansing one’s private parts (after easing or urinating) with water.
