Former UFC Lightweight Champion Visits Makkah for Umrah

Khabib Nurmagomedov has perfomrmed Umrah in Mecca. The former UFC lightweight champion who is one of the world’s most famous Muslim athletes is a practicing Muslim who visits the holy city every year.

Last year he took a trip to Makkah in November and this year he has made the journey slightly earlier.

He posted a photo on Instagram of himself at the Great Mosque of Mecca:

“For me, Makkah is like a river, where you can take a bath and get pure. After all, all servants of Almighty need purification of soul more than anything else. May Allah forgives us and guide us to the right path,” he wrote on Instagram.

Earlier in April 2018 Nurmagomedov explained that “there is nothing else more important to me than being clear with Allah. And being clear with Allah is the No.1 hardest thing in life.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov retired from competitive MMA in 2020 after beating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. At the time Khabbib was the promotion’s lightweight champion and pound-for-pound king with a 29-0 record

Khabib would probably have continued competing if it wasn’t for the death of his father who was also his coach. Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov died after contracting Covid-19 in 2020.
