Hadith of a man (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ رَجُلٍ، ٢٢٣٣٦ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حُصَيْنٌ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، مِنْ قَوْمِهِ قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعَلَيَّ خَاتَمٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، فَأَخَذَ جَرِيدَةً فَضَرَبَ بِهَا كَفِّي وَقَالَ: " اطْرَحْهُ ". قَالَ: فَخَرَجْتُ فَطَرَحْتُهُ، ثُمَّ عُدْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ: " مَا فَعَلَ الْخَاتَمُ؟ " قَالَ: قُلْتُ: طَرَحْتُهُ. قَالَ: " إِنَّمَا أَمَرْتُكَ أَنْ تَسْتَمْتِعَ بِهِ وَلَا تَطْرَحَهُ " (١)، ،

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I presented myself before the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) while I was wearing a gold ring. The Prophet (ﷺ) took a twig and struck my hand, instructing me to remove it. So I went outside and threw it away, then returned to the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "What happened to that ring?" I replied that I had thrown it away. He said, "I had instructed you to benefit from it in some other way, not to throw it away."
