Hadith of ‘Ubada ibn Qurt (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ قُرْطٍ، ٢٠٧٥٠ - حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ عُبَادَةُ بْنُ قُرْطٍ: " إِنَّكُمْ تَأْتُونَ أَشْيَاءَ هِيَ أَدَقُّ فِي أَعْيُنِكُمْ مِنَ الشَّعْرِ، كُنَّا نَعُدُّهَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، الْمُوبِقَاتِ " قَالَ: فَذَكَرُوا ذَلِكَ لِمُحَمَّدٍ، فَقَالَ: " صَدَقَ، أَرَى جَرَّ الْإِزَارِ مِنْهُ " (١)، ،

Ubada bin Qirt says that you people commit such deeds which, in your eyes, are considered even less than a hair, but during the blessed era of the Prophet (peace be upon him), we used to count these very things among the destructive (sins).

حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ، عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ قُرْطٍ أَوْ قُرْصٍ، قَالَ: " إِنَّكُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ أَعْمَالًا هِيَ أَدَقُّ فِي أَعْيُنِكُمْ مِنَ الشَّعْرِ، إِنْ كُنَّا لَنَعُدُّهَا عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الْمُوبِقَاتِ " (١)،

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ قُرْصٍ أَوْ قُرْطٍ: " إِنَّكُمْ لَتَعْمَلُونَ الْيَوْمَ أَعْمَالًا هِيَ أَدَقُّ فِي أَعْيُنِكُمْ مِنَ الشَّعْرِ، كُنَّا نَعُدُّهَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الْمُوبِقَاتِ "، فَقُلْتُ لِأَبِي قَتَادَةَ: فَكَيْفَ لَوْ أَدْرَكَ زَمَانَنَا هَذَا؟ فَقَالَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ: " لَكَانَ لِذَلِكَ أَقْوَلَ " (٢)، ،
