Hadith of Habib ibn Mukhnaf (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ حَبِيبِ بْنِ مِخْنَفٍ (١)، ٢٠٧٣٠ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ مِخْنَفٍ، قَالَ: انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ، قَالَ: وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: " هَلْ تَعْرِفُونَهَا؟ "، قَالَ: فَمَا أَدْرِي مَا رَجَعُوا عَلَيْهِ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " عَلَى أَهْلِ كُلِّ بَيْتٍ أَنْ يَذْبَحُوا شَاةً، فِي كُلِّ رَجَبٍ، وَكُلِّ أَضْحَى شَاةً " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Mukhnif bin Sulaym that on the day of Arafah, I came to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the Prophet (peace be upon him) was saying, "Do you recognize this?" I do not know what the people replied to him. However, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Every year, sacrifice (Qurbani) and 'Atirah are obligatory upon every household." Benefit: In the beginning, from the time of ignorance, the custom of sacrifice in the month of Rajab was prevalent, which was called 'Atirah and Rahbiyah. Later, this was prohibited, and only the sacrifice on the occasion of Eid al-Adha remained prescribed.

حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو رَمْلَةَ، عَنْ مِخْنَفِ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ، قَالَ رَوْحٌ: الْغَامِدِيُّ، قَالَ: وَنَحْنُ وُقُوفٌ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِعَرَفَةَ، فَقَالَ: " يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، إِنَّ عَلَى أَهْلِ كُلِّ بَيْتٍ فِي كُلِّ عَامٍ أَضْحَاةً، وَعَتِيرَةً، أَتَدْرُونَ مَا الْعَتِيرَةُ؟ هِيَ الَّتِي يُسَمِّيهَا النَّاسُ الرَّجَبِيَّةُ " (١)، ،

It is narrated from Mukhnif bin Sulaym that we were present with the Prophet (peace be upon him) when he was standing in the plain of Arafat, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) was saying: O people, every year sacrifice (Qurbani) and 'Atirah are obligatory upon every household. The narrator asked: Do you know what is meant by 'Atirah? It is the same sacrifice which people also call Rahbiyah.
