Hadith of Marthad ibn Dhibyan (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ مَرْثَدِ بْنِ ظَبْيَانَ (١)، ٢٠٦٦٧ - حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ، وَحُسَيْنٌ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ مُضَارِبِ بْنِ حَزْنِ الْعِجْلِيِّ، (٢) قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَ مِرْثَدُ بْنُ ظَبْيَانَ، قَالَ: جَاءَنَا كِتَابٌ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَمَا وَجَدْنَا لَهُ كَاتِبًا يَقْرَؤُهُ عَلَيْنَا، حَتَّى قَرَأَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي ضُبَيْعَةَ: " مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى بَكْرِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ، أَسْلِمُوا تَسْلَمُوا " (٣)، ،

It is narrated from Mirthad that a letter from the Prophet (peace be upon him) came to us, but we could not find any literate person who could read it out to us. Eventually, a man from Banu Zubay‘ah read the letter to us, the contents of which were: "From the Messenger of Allah to Bakr bin Wa’il: Accept Islam and you will find safety."
