Hadith of Kurdam ibn Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ كَرْدَمِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ (١) (٢)، ١٥٤٥٦ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْحُوَيْرِثِ حَفْصٌ مِنْ وَلَدِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَعْلَى بْنِ كَعْبٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتِ كَرْدَمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهَا كَرْدَمِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ نَذْرٍ نُذِرَهُ (٣) فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أَلِوَثَنٍ أَوْ لِنُصُبٍ؟ " قَالَ: لَا، وَلَكِنْ لِلَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى، قَالَ: " فَأَوْفِ لِلَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى مَا جَعَلْتَ لَهُ، انْحَرْ (٤) عَلَى بُوَانَةَ، وَأَوْفِ بِنَذْرِكَ " (٥)، ،

Kurdam bin Sufyan says that he asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) about the ruling of a vow which he had made during the time of ignorance. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: Did you make that vow for any idol or stone? He replied: No, rather I made it for Allah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Then fulfill the vow you made for Allah; slaughter an animal at the place called Bawna and fulfill your vow.
