It is narrated from Ibn Adra’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was guarding the Prophet at night. The Prophet (ﷺ) came out for some work, and when he saw me, he took hold of my hand and we started walking. On the way, we passed by a man who was reciting the Qur’an in a loud voice during prayer. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Perhaps he is doing this to show off.” I said, “O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! He is reciting the Qur’an in a loud voice during prayer.” Upon this, the Prophet let go of my hand and said, “You cannot judge this matter based on mere assumption.” Once again, in the same way, I was guarding at night when the Prophet (ﷺ) came out for some work and took hold of my hand and we started walking. Again, on the way, we passed by a man who was reciting the Qur’an in a loud voice. This time, I took the initiative and said, “Perhaps he is doing this to show off.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Absolutely not, he is very devoted in turning to Allah.” I inquired and found out that he was Abdullah Dhu’l-Bijadain.
