Chapter 1
It is narrated from Ka’b bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I asked the Prophet (ﷺ): At which part of the night is supplication more likely to be accepted? The Prophet (ﷺ) said: In the last part of the night. Then he said: Prayer continues to be accepted until you perform the Fajr prayer, then there is no prayer until the sun rises, until the sun has risen the length of one or two spears, then prayer continues to be accepted until the shadow of the sun becomes the length of one spear, after that there is no prayer until the time of decline (zawal), then prayer continues to be accepted until you perform the Asr prayer, then there is no prayer until sunset. And when a person performs ablution and washes his hands, the sins of his hands fall away; when he washes his face, the sins of his face fall away; when he washes his arms, the sins of his arms fall away; and when he washes his feet, the sins of his feet fall away. Shu’bah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the narrator did not mention wiping the head. Whoever frees a Muslim (slave), it becomes a means of his deliverance from Hell, and for every limb of the slave, a limb of the one who frees him is freed. And whoever frees two Muslim women, both become a means of his deliverance from Hell, and for every limb of theirs, a limb of the one who frees them is freed from Hell. And if a woman frees a Muslim woman, she becomes a means of her deliverance from Hell, and for every limb of the slave woman, a limb of the one who frees her is freed from Hell.

Abu Qilabah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that when Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, many preachers stood up in Ilya. Among the last of them, a companion named Marrah bin Ka'b stood up and said: "If I had not heard this hadith from the Prophet (ﷺ), I would never have stood up. The Prophet (ﷺ) once mentioned a tribulation. During that time, a veiled man passed by. The Prophet (ﷺ) saw him and said: 'On that day, he and his companions will be upon the truth.' I followed him, grabbed his shoulder, turned his face towards the Prophet (ﷺ), and asked, 'This man?' The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'Yes!' I saw that it was Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him)."

It is narrated from Ka'b bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say: Whoever frees a Muslim, it becomes a means of deliverance for him from Hell, and for every limb of the slave, a limb of the one who frees him is set free. And whoever frees two Muslim women, both of them become a means of deliverance for him from Hell, and for every limb of theirs, a limb of the one who frees them is set free from Hell. And if a woman frees a Muslim woman, she becomes a means of deliverance for her from Hell, and for every limb of the slave-girl, a limb of hers is set free from Hell. And the Prophet (ﷺ) invoked a curse against the tribe of Mudar. I came to the presence of the Messenger and said: O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), Allah has helped you, granted you, accepted your supplication, your people are being destroyed, so supplicate to Allah for them. The Prophet (ﷺ) turned his face away. I repeated my words, then the Prophet (ﷺ) said: O Allah! Give us a rain that will abundantly water us, fill the earth with water, be plentiful, not delayed, beneficial, not harmful. After this supplication, the Friday prayer had not yet taken place when the rain began.

He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, supplicated against Mudar. He said: So I came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has given you victory, granted you, and answered you, and your people have perished, so supplicate to Allah for them." But he turned away from him. He said: So I said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has given you victory, granted you, and answered you, and your people have perished, so supplicate to Allah for them." So he said: "O Allah, give us rain, abundant, beneficial, widespread, plentiful, not delayed, beneficial, not harmful." It was not but a week or so until they were given rain. Shu'bah said: In the supplication there is a word I heard from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Salim regarding seeking rain, and in the hadith of Habib, or Amr, from Salim, he said: "I have come to you from a people for whom no stallion stirs, nor does a shepherd prepare provisions for them."

It is narrated from Shurahbil bin Simt (may Allah have mercy on him) that he submitted to Ka'b bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him), "O Ka'b bin Murrah! Please narrate to us a hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him) with caution." He said, "I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: O people of Sana! Practice archery. Whoever's arrow strikes the enemy, Allah raises him one rank. Abdur Rahman bin Abi Nuham asked, 'O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), what is meant by a rank?' The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, 'It is not a small rank like the threshold of your mother's house. The distance between two ranks in Paradise is a hundred years.'"

He then said, "O Ka'b bin Murrah! Narrate to us a hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him) with caution." He replied, "I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: Whoever frees a Muslim, it becomes a means of deliverance for him from Hell, and for every limb of the slave, a limb of the one who frees him is set free. And whoever frees two Muslim women, both of them become a means of deliverance for him from Hell, and for every limb of theirs, a limb of the one who frees them is set free from Hell. And whoever grows old in the way of Allah, the whiteness of his hair will be a source of light for him on the Day of Resurrection."

Shurahbil (may Allah have mercy on him) said: O Ka'b bin Murrah! Narrate to us a hadith of the Prophet (ﷺ) with care. He replied: I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say: Whoever shoots an arrow in the way of Allah, it is as if he has freed a slave.

A man came to the presence of the Messenger and said, "Pray to Allah for rain for the tribe of Mudar." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "You are very bold, should I pray for the people of Mudar?" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah! (peace be upon him) Allah has helped you, granted you, accepted your supplication, (your people are perishing, pray to Allah for them)." So the Prophet (peace be upon him) raised his hands and said, "O Allah! Quench us with abundant rain that fills the earth with water, let it be plentiful, not delayed, beneficial, not harmful." After this supplication, the Friday prayer had not yet taken place when the rain started. After some time, those people came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) complaining about the excess of rain and said that the houses had collapsed. Upon this, the Prophet (peace be upon him) raised his blessed hands and said, "O Allah! Let the rain fall around us, not upon us." So the clouds scattered to the right and left.
