Chapter 1
It is narrated from Ubaid bin Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) established brotherhood between two men. One of them was martyred during the time of the Prophet (ﷺ), and after some time, the other died a natural death. People began to pray for him. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "What are you praying for?" We replied, "We are saying: O Allah! Forgive him, have mercy on him, and grant him the companionship of his friend." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Then where did the prayers he offered after the martyrdom of his companion go? The fasts he kept later, or whatever other deeds he performed, where will they go? The distance between the two is greater than that between the earth and the sky." The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain.
