Hadith of Muti' ibn al-Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ مُطِيعِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ، ١٧٨٦٦ - حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ، عَنْ فِرَاسٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ مُطِيعُ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ: " لَا يَنْبَغِي أَنْ يُقْتَلَ قُرَشِيٌّ بَعْدَ يَوْمِهِ هَذَا صَبْرًا " (١)،

It is narrated from Muti’ bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said on the day of the conquest of Makkah: After today, no permission will be given to kill any Quraishi in a state of oppression.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا، حَدَّثَنَا عَامِرٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُطِيعٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ يَقُولُ: " لَا يُقْتَلُ قُرَشِيٌّ صَبْرًا بَعْدَ الْيَوْمِ " وَلَمْ يُدْرِكِ الْإِسْلَامَ أَحَدٌ (٢) مِنْ عُصَاةِ قُرَيْشٍ، غَيْرُ مُطِيعٍ " وَكَانَ اسْمُهُ عَاصِيًا، فَسَمَّاهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُطِيعًا " (٣)،

It is narrated from Muti’ bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said on the day of the conquest of Makkah: "After today, no permission will be given to kill any Quraishi in a state of oppression." It should be noted that, besides Muti’, no other disobedient person from the Quraish had accepted Islam. His name was ‘Aasi, which the Prophet (ﷺ) changed to Muti’.

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا، عَنْ عَامِرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُطِيعٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ: " لَا يُقْتَلُ قُرَشِيٌّ صَبْرًا بَعْدَ الْيَوْمِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ " (٤)، ،

It is narrated from Muti’ bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said on the day of the conquest of Makkah: After today, no permission will be given to kill any Quraishi in a state of oppression.

حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي السَّفَرِ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُطِيعِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ، أَخِي بَنِي عَدِيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ مُطِيعٍ - وَكَانَ اسْمُهُ الْعَاصِ، فَسَمَّاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُطِيعًا - قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ أَمَرَ بِقَتْلِ هَؤُلَاءِ الرَّهْطِ بِمَكَّةَ يَقُولُ: " لَا تُغْزَى مَكَّةُ بَعْدَ هَذَا الْعَامِ أَبَدًا، وَلَا يُقْتَلُ قُرَشِيٌّ بَعْدَ هَذَا (١) الْعَامِ صَبْرًا أَبَدًا " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Muti’ bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him), whose name was ‘Aasi and the Prophet (peace be upon him) changed his name to Muti’, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said on the day of the conquest of Makkah: “After today, there will be no jihad in Makkah Mukarramah, and after today, no permission will be given to kill any Quraishi in a state of oppression.”
