Chapter 1
It is narrated from Abdul Muttalib bin Rabee’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the service of the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! (ﷺ) When we leave our house, we see the Quraysh talking, but when they see us approaching, they become silent." Upon this, the vein on the Prophet’s (ﷺ) forehead between his two eyes swelled, and he said, "By Allah! Faith cannot enter a person’s heart until he loves you for the sake of Allah’s pleasure and because of my kinship."

It is narrated from Abdul Muttalib bin Rabee’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the service of the Prophet (ﷺ) in a state of anger and said, “O Messenger of Allah! (ﷺ) When we leave our house, we see the Quraysh talking, but when they see us approaching, they become silent.” Upon this, the vein on the forehead between the eyes of the Prophet (ﷺ) swelled, and he said, “By Allah! Faith cannot enter a person’s heart until he loves you for the sake of Allah’s pleasure and because of my kinship.” Then he said, “O people! Whoever hurts Abbas has hurt me, because a man’s uncle is in the place of his father.”

It is narrated from Abdul Muttalib bin Rabee’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once some Ansari people came to the service of the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, “We hear many things from your people; they even say that the example of Muhammad (ﷺ) is like that of a tree that has grown in rubbish.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “O people! Who am I?” They said, “You are the Messenger of Allah.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “In terms of lineage, I am Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul Muttalib. We had not seen the Prophet (ﷺ) attributing himself in this way before. When Allah Almighty created His creation, He placed me in the best of His creation. Then He divided them into two parts and placed me in the best part of them. Then He divided them into tribes and placed me in the best tribe. Then He divided them into families and placed me in the best family, and I am the best among you in terms of family and lineage.” Peace and blessings be upon him.

It is narrated from Abdul Muttalib bin Rabee’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he and Fadl presented themselves before the Prophet (ﷺ) so that the Prophet (ﷺ) would arrange their marriages and appoint them to collect zakat so that they too might receive something. The Prophet (ﷺ) said that these charities are the impurities of people’s wealth, therefore they are not lawful for Muhammad (ﷺ) and the family of Muhammad (ﷺ). Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said to Mahmiya Zubaidi to marry his daughter to Fadl, and to Nafool bin Harith to marry his daughter to Abdul Muttalib bin Rabee’ah. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said to Mahmiya, whom he had appointed over the khums, to give them enough money from the khums so that they could pay the dowry. And at the beginning of this hadith, it is also detailed that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) met both of them and said that the Prophet (ﷺ) would never appoint them to collect zakat. They replied that this was his jealousy. He said, “I am Abu Hasan, my opinion is preferred, and I will not return until I see what answer the Prophet (ﷺ) gives you.” So when both of them spoke to the Prophet (ﷺ), the Prophet (ﷺ) remained silent, and Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) began to shake her garment, signaling that the Prophet (ﷺ) would fulfill their request.

It is narrated from Abdul Muttalib bin Rabee’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Mahmiya, whom the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had appointed over the khums, and Abu Sufyan bin Harith were called, and he said to them: Give him from the khums enough money so that he can pay the dowry. Once Rabee’ah bin Harith and Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib gathered and said that these two boys should be sent to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so they called me and Fadl and said: Go to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he will appoint you over the collection of zakat, fulfill the responsibility like other people and benefit from what people get. Meanwhile, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came and asked: What is your intention? They told him their intention. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not do this. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) will never appoint you to collect zakat. They said: This is your jealousy. He said: I am Abu Hasan, my opinion is preferred, and I will not return until I see what answer the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gives you. So when both of them spoke to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he remained silent, and Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) began to shake her garment, signaling that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would do your work. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: These charities are the impurities of people's wealth, so they are not lawful for Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The previous hadith is also narrated from this second chain.
