Hadith of Umar al-Jam'i (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ عُمَرَ الْجُمَعِيِّ، ١٧٢١٧ - حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ، وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنِي بَحِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا جُبَيْرُ بْنُ نُفَيْرٍ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ الْجُمَعِيَّ، حَدَّثَهُ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " إِذَا أَرَادَ اللهُ بِعَبْدٍ خَيْرًا اسْتَعْمَلَهُ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ " فَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ: مَا اسْتَعْمَلَهُ (١) ؟ قَالَ: " يَهْدِيهِ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَى الْعَمَلِ الصَّالِحِ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ، ثُمَّ يَقْبِضُهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Umar Jami’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “When Allah intends good for a servant, He uses him before his death.” Someone asked, “What is meant by ‘uses him’?” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah grants him the ability to do a righteous deed before his death, then takes his soul in that state.”
