Hadith of Ibn Abas, an elder who witnessed the Jahiliyyah (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ ابْنِ عَبْسٍ شَيْخٌ أَدْرَكَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةَ، ١٦٦٩٥ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ الْبُرْسَانِيُّ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ (١) بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الدَّارِيُّ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شَيْخٌ أَدْرَكَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةَ، وَنَحْنُ فِي غَزْوَةِ رُودِسَ يُقَالُ لَهُ: ابْنُ عَبْسٍ، قَالَ: " كُنْتُ أَسُوقُ لِآلٍ لَنَا بَقَرَةً "، قَالَ: " فَسَمِعْتُ مِنْ جَوْفِهَا: يَا آلَ ذَرِيحٍ، قَوْلٌ فَصِيحٌ، رَجُلٌ يَصِيحُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ "، قَالَ: " فَقَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ، فَوَجَدْنَا النَّبِيَّ قَدْ خَرَجَ بِمَكَّةَ " (٢)، ،

Ibn Abas narrates that I used to graze a cow belonging to my family. One day, I heard a voice from its belly saying, "O family of Dharih! An eloquent statement is being proclaimed by a person, saying: There is no deity except Allah." After that, when we reached Makkah Mukarramah, we found out that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had proclaimed prophethood.
