Hadith of a man from the Ansar, the owner of the Prophet’s camels (peace be upon him)

حَدِيثُ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ صَاحِبِ بُدْنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ١٦٦٠٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ يَعْنِي شَيْبَانَ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ شَهْرٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي الْأَنْصَارِيُّ صَاحِبُ بُدْنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا بَعَثَهُ قَالَ: " رَجَعْتُ " (١) ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ (٢) اللهِ، مَا تَأْمُرُنِي بِمَا عَطِبَ مِنْهَا؟، قَالَ: " انْحَرْهَا ثُمَّ اصْبُغْ نَعْلَهَا فِي دَمِهَا، ثُمَّ، ، ضَعْهَا عَلَى صَفْحَتِهَا أَوْ عَلَى جَنْبِهَا، وَلَا تَأْكُلْ مِنْهَا أَنْتَ وَلَا أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ رُفْقَتِكَ " (١)، ،

An Ansari companion (may Allah be pleased with him), who was assigned to take care of the she-camel, says that once the Prophet (ﷺ) sent him somewhere. I went a little distance and then returned and submitted: O Messenger of Allah! If a camel is about to die, what do you command? The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Slaughter it, then soak its hooves in its blood and place them on its forehead or its side, and neither you nor any of your companions should eat from it.
