Hadith of Rafi' ibn Makith (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace be upon him)

حَدِيثُ رَافِعِ بْنِ مُكَيْثٍ (١) ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ١٦٠٧٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ زُفَرَ، عَنْ بَعْضِ بَنِي رَافِعِ بْنِ مَكِيثٍ (٢) ، عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ مَكِيثٍ - وَكَانَ مِمَّنْ شَهِدَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةَ - أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " حُسْنُ الْخُلُقِ نَمَاءٌ، وَسُوءُ الْخُلُقِ شُؤْمٌ، وَالْبِرُّ زِيَادَةٌ فِي الْعُمُرِ، وَالصَّدَقَةُ تَمْنَعُ مِيتَةَ السَّوْءِ " (٣)، ،

It is narrated from Rafi' bin Makith, who was among the participants of Uhud, that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: Good character is a thing that has the ability to grow, and bad character is misfortune. Goodness increases one's lifespan, and charity averts a bad death.
