Hadith of al-Samma’ bint Busr (may Allah be pleased with her)

حَدِيثُ الصَّمَّاءِ بِنْتِ بُسْرٍ (١)، ٢٧٠٧٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ثَوْرٌ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُسْرٍ، عَنْ أُخْتِهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " لَا تَصُومُوا يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ إِلَّا فِيمَا افْتُرِضَ عَلَيْكُمْ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَّا عُودَ عِنَبٍ أَوْ لِحَاءِ (٢) شَجَرَةٍ فَلْيَمْضُغْهَا " (٣)، ،

It is narrated from Samā’ bint Busr (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Do not observe a fast on Saturday except for that which has been made obligatory upon you, and if any of you finds nothing to eat except a grape twig or the bark of a tree, then let him chew it.”

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ وَرْدَانَ، عَنْ عُبَيْدٍ الْأَعْرَجِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَتْنِي جَدَّتِي، أَنَّهَا دَخَلَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَتَغَدَّى وَذَلِكَ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ فَقَالَ: " تَعَالَيْ فَكُلِي "، فَقَالَتْ: إِنِّي صَائِمَةٌ، فَقَالَ لَهَا: " صُمْتِ أَمْسِ؟ "، فَقَالَتْ: لَا، قَالَ: " فَكُلِي، فَإِنَّ صِيَامَ يَوْمِ السَّبْتِ (١) لَا لَكِ وَلَا عَلَيْكِ " (٢)،

A female companion (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Prophet (ﷺ) about the ruling of fasting on Saturday, so the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "There is neither any special reward for it nor any sin."

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ،، ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ الزُّبَيْدِيِّ، عَنْ لُقْمَانَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُسْرٍ، عَنْ أُخْتِهِ الصَّمَّاءِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " لَا يَصُومَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ إِلَّا فِي فَرِيضَةٍ، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ إِلَّا لِحَاءِ (١) شَجَرَةٍ فَلْيُفْطِرْ عَلَيْهِ " (٢)، ،
