Chapter 1
It is narrated from Qais bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that before the command of Zakat was revealed, the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) used to order the giving of Sadaqat-ul-Fitr. When the command of Zakat was revealed, we were forbidden from it and were not ordered to do so, but we continued to give it. And before the command of fasting in the month of Ramadan was revealed, the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) ordered us to fast on the day of Ashura. When the command of fasting in the month of Ramadan was revealed, the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) neither ordered us to fast on Ashura nor forbade us, but we ourselves continued to fast.

It is narrated from Qais (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said: Whoever justifies his ruler in disobedience to Allah, on the Day of Resurrection Allah will weaken his strategy.

Sahl bin Hunaif (may Allah be pleased with him) and Qais bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) were once sitting in Qadisiyyah. Meanwhile, some people passed by carrying a funeral bier. Both of them stood up. Someone said that the deceased was from the residents of this area. They replied that once some people passed by the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) carrying a funeral bier, so the Prophet (ﷺ) stood up. Someone said that the deceased was a Jew. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Was he not a human being?”

It is narrated from Qais bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) came to us. We arranged water for the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) to bathe. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) bathed, then we brought to the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) a quilt dyed with that water, which the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) wrapped around himself. The marks that appeared on the folds of the Noble Prophet's (ﷺ) stomach, that scene is still before my eyes. Then we brought a donkey to serve as a ride for the Noble Prophet (ﷺ). The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The owner of the ride has more right to sit in front." We said, "O Messenger of Allah! Then this ride is only for you."
