musnad-ahmad/1085 · Musnad Ahmad

Chapter 1

It is narrated about an Aslami companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was bitten by an animal. This was mentioned to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), so he (peace be upon him) said: "If you had recited these words in the evening: 'A'udhu bikalimatillahi-t-tammati kulliha min sharri ma khalaq' (I seek refuge in all the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created), then nothing would have harmed you until the morning." The narrator of the hadith, Suhail, says that if any of us was bitten by an animal, my father would ask, "Did you recite these words?" If he replied, "Yes," then his opinion would be that now nothing would harm him.
