Hadith of a man from the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him)

حَدِيثُ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ٢٣٤٨٤ - حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ، عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ (١) قَالَ: كُنْتُ أَقُولُ فِي أَوْلَادِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ هُمْ مِنْهُمْ، فَحَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَقِيتُهُ فَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " رَبُّهُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِهِمْ، وَهُوَ خَلَقَهُمْ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِمْ، وَبِمَا كَانُوا عَامِلِينَ " (٢)، ،

It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that for a time I held the opinion that the children of Muslims would be with the Muslims and the children of the polytheists would be with the polytheists, until such and such a person narrated to me from so-and-so this hadith: that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) was asked about the children of the polytheists, so the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allah Almighty knows best what deeds they would have done." (Then I met another person and he also told me the same thing, so I withdrew from my opinion.)
