حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنا لَيْثٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عُقَيْلٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: أَتَى رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَهُوَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، فَنَادَاهُ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي زَنَيْتُ، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، فَتَنَحَّى تِلْقَاءَ وَجْهِهِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي زَنَيْتُ، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، حَتَّى ثَنَّى ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ أَرْبَعَ مَرَّاتٍ، فَلَمَّا شَهِدَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ أَرْبَعَ مَرَّاتٍ دَعَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: " أَبِكَ جُنُونٌ؟ " قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: " فَهَلْ أَحْصَنْتَ؟ " قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " اذْهَبُوا (٢) فَارْجُمُوهُ "، قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ، فَأَخْبَرَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ، يَقُولُ: " كُنْتُ فِيمَنْ رَجَمَهُ، فَرَجَمْنَاهُ فِي الْمُصَلَّى، فَلَمَّا أَذْلَقَتْهُ الْحِجَارَةُ هَرَبَ، فَأَدْرَكْنَاهُ بِالْحَرَّةِ فَرَجَمْنَاهُ " (٣)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Muslim came to the service of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have committed the sin of adultery." Upon hearing this, the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) turned his face away. He came from the right side and said the same thing. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) again turned his face away. Then he came from the left side and said the same thing. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) again turned away. But when he confessed for the fourth time, the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) asked him, "Are you insane?" He said, "No." The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "Are you married?" He said, "Yes!" The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Take him and carry out the punishment of stoning upon him." The noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) took him away. Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says, "I was also among those who stoned him. We stoned him at the Eidgah. When the stones hit him, he started to run away. We caught him at Harrah and stoned him to death."
